The Timber Trail is open to walkers and cyclists. The trail weaves through and even above the forest canopy via suspension bridges.
As you pass along it, watch for the shy, pretty kaka (bush parrot), dancing piwakawaka (fantails) and listen for the haunting call of the rare kokako (blue-wattle crow).
The Pureora Forest Park is located to the west of Taupo town. There are various access points to different hiking and biking trails.
