Our family love Taupo so much that we decided to move here and make the lifestyle change a permanent one.
More infoLong before berms were a thing and when a tabletop was literally the top of your dining table, mountain biking revolved around grabbing your map, planning a route along some dotted map lines and getting out there.
More infoIt all began in 2012 when my son and I were invited to Taupo to write a travel story. He was just six, so I was doing most of the writing but he was my angle – Fun with Son in Lake Paradise - and the seeds of our affection for Taupo were sown.
More infoMy first memories of Taupo are from when I was very young. I grew up in Hawke's Bay, a two hour drive away on the East Coast of the North Island. We travelled there for family holidays and stayed at our family friends bach in Wharewaka.
More infoThe air is crisp and still, and the sound of my sturdy boots chomping through frosty grass pierces the early morning stillness.
More infoFunny, isn’t it, how it’s only when you leave a place that you experience the depth of its power and pull?
More infoHear memories from passionate operators and guides that have been sharing their love of this place with locals, domestic and international travellers for many years.
