If you visit the centre today you will find a tourist and educational facility that has been thoughtfully built among the native trees and rivers, home to native birds, a spring fed stream populated by huge trout protected from fisherman, a man-made, kids fishing pond populated with trout from the hatchery with a world class river renown for the sport of fly fishing bordering one side of the site. This place is special, a place set aside for nature to be reborn, evidenced by the Whio crèche nestled amongst the bush where a record number of the endangered birds were nurtured and prepared for release back into the river systems this year. This place is alive with school children, tourists and locals enjoying the attractions.
