Gems in the Broadlands

Ōrakei Kōrako Cave & Thermal Park

Venture into an off-the-beaten-track excursion with other-worldly colours, silica terraces and bubbling geothermal mud. A short ferry ride and the trails will take one hour to see the whole park. But stay longer and witness the active geysers erupting from epic viewing platforms.

Tongariro adventure

Tongariro National Trout Centre 

The kids will have a few fishing tales after a day at the Tongariro National Trout Centre. During the school holidays, advanced and beginner anglers (ages 3-18) learn how to cast, catch their own rainbow trout and enjoy it freshly cooked and smoked.

Tongariro Mountain Bikes

Rent mountain bikes or ebikes for a family-friendly ride through the 15 km, Grade 2 loop at the Tongariro River Trail. Journey past sweeping riverside views, splashing trout, scenic swing bridges and rare whio. It's an optimal ride for both older and younger riders.

Huka Falls 

“Huka” in Te Reo Māori means snow, foam or froth. Once you see the majestic Huka Falls, you’ll understand why. Its beautiful colors and thundering power are indescribable. Park in the carpark for a quick visit or take a long beautiful walk (1-2 hour one-way) to Spa Thermal Park.
