Elevation

The Te Iringa Trail features a challenging 330m ascent from the car park, followed by technical descents and steep climbs. With tight switchbacks and rugged terrain, this trail offers experienced bikers a thrilling ride through scenic forest landscapes and river crossings.

Riding the Te Iringa Track

The Te Iringa Track is a fantastic adventure in the Kaimanawa Forest Park, perfect for experienced mountain bikers craving a challenge. Starting with a 330-meter climb from the car park, the trail winds through beautiful native bush, skirts around Mt Te Iringa, and descends to a picturesque swing bridge at the junction of Tikitiki Stream and Kaipo River.

After crossing the swing bridge, you can follow the track down the Kaipo Valley to reach Oamaru Hut. This cozy 12-bunk hut, nestled by the Kaipo and Oamaru rivers, is a great spot for an overnight stay. The extra 1.5-hour ride to the hut adds more fun to your adventure and gives you a chance to soak in the wilderness.

On the way back, you'll find that sections that seemed unrideable on the way out become an exciting, technical ride. You can turn around at the end of the tight switchbacks or continue to Oamaru Hut for an extended trip. The ride back is often the highlight, with technical challenges and rewarding descents.
