Easy Level Riding: Low Key & High Reward

The Supervolcanic Trail Network has rides for all levels and abilities, including many ‘Easy’ rides considered Grade 1 or 2. Families, beginners, and easy riders - if the slower pace is your jam, we have gentle yet immersive and magical trails for you. They’re mostly flat and smooth to get you and your squad on the move!

Getting in the saddle is a piece of cake, and our ‘Easy’ trails are low-key legendary for low key riders. With a contrasting, and well spread offering, you can experience thermal, riverside, streams, lakes and native bush rides within our entry-level trails.

    Explore the Tongariro River Trail in Turangi, offering gentle riverside rides and stunning native bush. Cross a scenic swing bridge and stop at the Tongariro National Trout Centre for a picnic and learning experience, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. Perfect for the whole family.

    Great Lake Pathway

    Voted New Zealand's Favourite Urban Ride in 2017, the Great Lake Pathway (Lion's Walk) is perfectly suited for families and offers spectacular views across Lake Taupo to the snow-capped peaks of Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu.

Many of the ‘Easy’ rides are near Taupō township, but there are more beyond. Set off from Taupō town, Tūrangi, Kinloch, or catch a water taxi or bike shuttle to access rides further afield. However you like to ride, we’ve got local knowledge to see you right.
