The revered Kaimanawa Descent, 23km of life-affirming down hill riding. Descend through 2,500ft (800m) of alpine tussock country into a native mountain beech forest as the closer. Only accessible via helicopter - but what a way to make an entrance!

    Tree Trunk Gorge

    The Tree Trunk Gorge trail will take you on a picturesque journey through the Kaimanawa Forest Park. It passes through classic central North Island beech forest, across streams and rivers and over two impressive gorges as it tracks along the upper section of the Tongariro River.

Rides within the Kaimanawas are more remote than others so extra planning does the trick. Tūrangi is the closest township with bike stores, operators and services for the latest intel and goods. Plus, Taupō is equipped for bike shuttles to access areas afar.
