Riding the K2K (Kawakawa Bay to Kinloch) Trail

The K2K (Kawakawa Bay to Kinloch) Trail, part of the Great Lake Trails, offers a versatile route that can be started from either Kinloch or Kawakawa Bay, and ridden as a linear trail or looped for a longer adventure.

From Kinloch, the trail begins by following markers along the scenic lakefront, leading to the official start where it ascends steadily through lush native bush. As you climb, your efforts are rewarded with magnificent, sweeping views from the top of the hill, particularly at Codgers Rock lookout, offering expansive vistas towards the western bays.

The journey continues with a flowy descent, guiding you down to the serene and picturesque Kawakawa Bay. Here, the tranquil waters and surrounding natural beauty provide a perfect setting for a restful break before continuing the ride or looping back to Kinloch. This route, with its challenging climbs and exhilarating descents, captures the essence of mountain biking in New Zealand, blending adventure with stunning natural landscapes.
