The Te Iringa Track is a fantastic adventure in the Kaimanawa Forest Park, perfect for experienced mountain bikers craving a challenge. Starting with a 330-meter climb from the car park, the trail winds through beautiful native bush, skirts around Mt Te Iringa, and descends to a picturesque swing bridge at the junction of Tikitiki Stream and Kaipo River.
After crossing the swing bridge, you can follow the track down the Kaipo Valley to reach Oamaru Hut. This cozy 12-bunk hut, nestled by the Kaipo and Oamaru rivers, is a great spot for an overnight stay. The extra 1.5-hour ride to the hut adds more fun to your adventure and gives you a chance to soak in the wilderness.
On the way back, you'll find that sections that seemed unrideable on the way out become an exciting, technical ride. You can turn around at the end of the tight switchbacks or continue to Oamaru Hut for an extended trip. The ride back is often the highlight, with technical challenges and rewarding descents.
The Te Iringa Track is perfect for those who love technical riding and want to enjoy the beauty of New Zealand's backcountry.
