Riding the Arapuni Trail

The Arapuni Trail, part of the Waikato River Trails, offers an exhilarating ride for experienced cyclists. Featuring technical single-track sections, steep climbs, and tight corners, it winds through lush native bush and open farmlands, offering breathtaking views from various lookout points along the river. Starting at the Waipapa Power Station and climbing Waipapa Road, the trail transitions into picturesque farmland and leads to the Arohena Campground on Lake Arapuni's western shores.

Key highlights include the impressive Arapuni Dam and several scenic vantage points. The trail continues through a scenic rural landscape with ancient rock formations and Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautiri in the background, ending at the historic Arapuni Power Station and Dam.

Though not within the Taupō region, this section is part of the larger Waikato River Trails network and offers a memorable adventure for all trail enthusiasts.
